I’m going to make this as short and sweet as possible because I have a video I want to share!

We arrived early at Vegas Uncork’d hoping that we’d be able to sneak in at the same time as the VIP folks, but that didn’t happen. In the end, it didn’t make any difference because, despite the size of the crowd, the pool area at Caesar’s is large enough to accommodate everyone.

Since we had to wait for a while, we decided to stop at Pronto Giada, a small wine bar in the restaurant area (near the Bacchanal Buffet), that was founded by Giada deLaurentis. They have by-the-ounce pours of wine, and we had the 2014 Palmina Nebbiolo. Palmina, by the way, is one of the wineries I visited a couple of years ago on one of my Central Coast trips. The winery is located in the Lompoc Wine Ghetto and has Italian varietals. They do a great job, and this Nebbiolo was absolutely delicious.

Did I mention how beautiful everything looked as the evening wore on? It was still daylight when we went into the event, and the lights were amazing as darkness encroached. It was a bit dark for truly successful photos, but I didn’t want to drown out the effect of the lighting with my camera’s flash.

“Vegas Uncork’d” is somewhat of a misnomer “Uncork’d.” Get it?). While we enjoyed several wines, this event was all about the food. I can’t even begin to count the number and types of food that we had, but there were a few standouts. Disclaimer: we did not taste every bit of food from every exhibitor because, well, we couldn’t. It’s the whole stomach capacity thing.

I had a cardboard carrier with fish and chips from one of Gordon Ramsay‘s restaurants, and it was truly one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Period. While the fries were good, the fish was tender, succulent, perfectly cooked, and perfectly delicious. Outstanding. Considering the number of people at the event, this was quite a statement. (We saw him, by the way, but couldn’t get close because of the crowds and security).

Other great standouts were BLT Steak, Sushi Samba, Guy Fieri‘s place, Hell’s Kitchen, Guy Savoy and others. Okay, I’ll admit it. I didn’t have any bad food there at all. Which is probably why at the end of the evening, I was ready to be stuck with a fork because I was DONE!

Remember, the pool area where The Grand Tasting was situated covers five acres, and I don’t know anyone who could have done all of the food, the wine, the spirits, the beers, and manage to survive. It would be undignified to roll around on the pool deck because one may have eaten just a bit too much.

At the end of the evening, Debbie and I were absolutely beat and full to the brim. We took Lyft to her house and after digesting a bit, I made my way home. And yes, I slept like a log, dreaming about fish and chips.

Enjoy the video!
