It’s been a rough couple of days. In updating the site, I ran into a lot more technical problems than I had planned. Fortunately, everything has worked out okay, and the new Vegas Wineaux site is up and running. There are still a couple of things that need to be addressed, but I’ve gotten the most important parts addressed and completed.
The first thing you may notice is that there’s a new logo. I had professional assistance in designing this logo and couldn’t be happier.
On the site itself, the Home page is the one that’s the most different. It’s designed to give everyone the opportunity to sign up for updates and to see what’s new in the world of wines, beer, spirits, food, and Las Vegas. The other pages haven’t changed significantly, but they display more updated information..
But what’s new is what you can’t see.
There is a new review system in place that will allow me to share my assessments of particular wines, whether gifted or purchased, “value” or unaffordable. It’s based on a scale that I can hang with; the usual wine rating systems award 50 points just for being wine. So if the wine really stinks, it still gets 50 points! The system that I’m using – based on one that’s been used in the technology world for ages – allows me to rate every aspect of the wine loosely based on the famous Grid that’s the creation of the Court of Master Sommeliers/Guild of Sommeliers. In my opinion, it gives a much more realistic view of the quality of the wine, and the final score is the average of all of the parts.
That said, my reviews, just like everybody else’s, is my opinion on that particular day of that particular wine and is intended as a guideline, not law.
There is an LMS (learning management system) in place, but not yet activated. This has been built for a list of upcoming classes that I’m currently developing but don’t plan to present until I tackle the Certified Wine Educator credential next year.
There’s a forum that will be easily activated after the LMS is in place, and will allow students and others to share. The great thing is that no matter where a wine neophyte or aficionado may be located, the classes will be available to all who are interested!
So it’s late, and I’m ready for dinner. And a glass of wine that I probably won’t be reviewing.
