You have probably noticed – if you’re a Twitter follower, that is – that I have posted a few popcorn and Chardonnay movie snacks over the course of the last couple of weeks or so. Now that may or may not make much sense to you, but if you think about it it really does add up.
It began when I went to a brand-new olive oil store called Big Horn Olive Oil Company. They have approximately a gazillion olive oils, vinegars, pastas, and much more.
I went there a few weeks ago just to take a few pictures, write about the place, and taste some of their oils. Nearly $100 later I walked out with said oils, vinegars, and pasta. Apparently they source their olive oils from all over the world according to seasons and harvest. All of the harvest dates are indicated on the olive oil containers which is a guarantee of freshness. That freshness and purity is apparent in every taste which is why I left with so many bottles. I even have a bottle of Lavender Balsamic vinegar which is incredible!
Although I bought several items including Tuscan Herb Olive Oil and Serrano Honey Specialty Vinegar, and one of my favorite oils has turned out to be one called Butter. It is an extra virgin olive oil, but it has absolutely no butter in it. How was that even possible?
Apparently, they take their own (real) extra virgin olive oil and infuse it with a combination of herbs to get a very butter-like flavor. It works!
I rarely pop popcorn, but when I do I pop white or black popcorn which ironically, both pop up white! I drizzle some of this fabulous Butter olive oil on it, add a few flakes of Maldon Sea Salt, open up a bottle of an oak-kissed Chardonnay, and I have a wonderful snack! I mean really really nice and really really healthy. After all, wine is healthy. The combination of olive oil and wine is a centuries-long tradition.
The Big Horn Olive Oil Company is located on the southeast corner of Rampart and Lake Mead in the northwest area of Las Vegas near Summerlin. It’s tucked in the back near the Three Dog Bakery (as a matter of fact they’re right next door to each other) and you are greeted with lots of rows of very neatly organized containers of olive oil and vinegars. The flavors are amazing; they have small tasting cups that you can use to sample. That’s how I ended up spending so much money. It’s a plot.
Enjoy the photos below, and visit it as soon as you can! I am so happy to have a store that is all olive oil that I don’t have to wait until I go to California in order to get. I do pick up the occasional olive oil from Trader Joe’s, but I really do like the gourmet style oils at Big Horn.
And yes, next time I’m going to get a big old bottle of Butter!
